Governor Tim Walz officially declared April 12, 2025, as Nepali New Year in Minnesota, marking a significant milestone for the Nepali community. During the celebration at the St. Paul Student Center, University of Minnesota, Ashley Oolman, Chief Equity Officer of the Minnesota Office of Equity, Opportunity, and Accessibility, read the proclamation aloud. The event was attended by over 250 participants, including more than 30 Asian community leaders representing over 15 organizations. This recognition brought immense joy and pride to the Nepali community, celebrating their cultural heritage and uplifting their spirits. The proclamation was later handed over to Gopu Shrestha, President of the Association of Nepalis in Minnesota (ANMN), symbolizing the state’s support for this vibrant community.
