Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and adventurous Outdoor Leader to join our team at a thrilling Summer Youth Camp. As an Outdoor Leader, you will have the opportunity to guide and mentor young campers in various outdoor activities, fostering their love for nature and developing valuable life skills. This is a seasonal position that promises exciting challenges and unforgettable experiences in a vibrant camp setting.
Duration:
03 Jul 2023 to 11 Aug, 2023 (5 Days a week, from 9A to 5P)
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking, canoeing, birdwatching, team-building games, nature exploration, and zoo-visits.
- Ensure the safety of campers during all outdoor activities, implementing proper safety procedures and protocols.
- Teach basic outdoor skills, such as fire building, map reading, knot tying, and wilderness survival techniques.
- Inspire campers to appreciate and respect the environment, promoting sustainable practices and Leave No Trace principles.
- Foster teamwork, cooperation, and positive communication among campers, encouraging a supportive and inclusive camp community.
- Provide guidance and support to campers, helping them build confidence, resilience, and self-reliance in outdoor settings.
- Maintain and organize outdoor equipment, ensuring its proper use, maintenance, and storage.
- Collaborate with other camp staff to coordinate schedules and integrate outdoor activities with the overall camp program.
- Assist in the supervision of campers during mealtimes, rest periods, and other camp activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with youth in a camp, school, or outdoor education setting.
- Strong passion for the outdoors, environmental education, and youth development.
- Proficiency in leading outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, and team-building games.
- Knowledge of wilderness safety and first aid procedures.
- Ability to inspire and motivate campers while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with campers and create a positive camp experience.
- CPR and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the camp).
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing camp needs.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends, as per the camp’s requirements.
